The Beatton River showing consists of two bog iron deposits located 14 kilometres northwest of Fort St. John, approximately 3.2 kilometres and 8 kilometres upstream of the Beatton River Bridge, along the Pink Mountain Road (Mile 147 Road) west of its intersection with the Alaska Highway.

The Beatton River showing is situated on dominantly Cretaceous continental and marine affinity rocks of the Sully Formation (Fort St. John Group), which “is defined as those shale beds lying below the sandstones and conglomerates of the Fort Nelson Formation [now the Dunvegan Formation] and above the sandstone and siltstone of the Sikanni Formation” (GSC Bulletin 328, p 57).

Both bog iron deposits exceed 600 square metres in area. The depth of the deposits is unknown, but is at least 25 centimetres. Samples from the two areas assayed 79.70 and 78.10 per cent iron oxide.
